Monsoon Tea Storage Tips

As the monsoon blesses all of us, to sip chai or Tea or coffee when it rains, the emotion is incomparable. As I am not an expert in the field of coffee, let me tell you a little about how to store your Tea right. Tea is bought with fondness. Sometimes it is sipped sooner than later while at times it is stored for occasions and mood to set in.

Irrespective when and how you sip Tea, there are few points that you must keep in mind especially with the weather changing. Moisture, dampness can ruin a perfectly good Tea.

1. Choose the right container:

   - Use airtight containers made of glass, ceramic or non-reactive metal

   - Avoid plastic or other containers that can absorb odours

   - Ensure the lid seals tightly to keep moisture out

2. Location matters:

   - Store tea in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight

   - Avoid keeping tea near the stove, sink or windows again to keep moisture and any strong smell at bay.

   - Consider using a dedicated tea cabinet or shelf

3. Use desiccants:

   - Place silica gel packets in your tea storage area

   - You can reuse these packets from other products or buy them separately

   - Replace them regularly, especially during monsoon

4. Divide:

   - Store frequently used tea in smaller containers

   - Keep larger quantities sealed until needed

   - This minimizes exposure to air and moisture

5. Be wary of the refrigerator:

   - Contrary to popular belief, refrigerating tea can introduce moisture

6. Check regularly:

   - Inspect your tea collection every few weeks

   - Look for signs of moisture like clumping or mould

   - Discard any tea that shows these signs

7. Paper packaging precautions:

   - If your tea comes in paper packaging, transfer it to an airtight container

   - Keep the original packaging inside for identification, if desired

8. Handle with dry hands:

    - Always use a dry spoon or scoop to handle tea

    - Avoid reaching into tea containers with damp hands

9. Avoid scooping Tea with a wet spoon. Any amount of moisture entering the container will lead to mould or fungus development, thus ruining your favourite Tea.
